WADDINGTON - A false alarm about a drowning child brought emergency crews to the Waddington Town Beach Thursday.
Fire and rescue units from Waddington and Lisbon and dive team members from around St. Lawrence County responded to the Waddington Town Beach for a report of a missing child in the water shortly before 1 p.m.
A lifeguard reported the child missing.
When a child was believed to not have resurfaced from the water, the lifeguards did what they were supposed to do, Recreation Commissioner Russell B. Strait said. They called it in. They acted in a very professional manner.
Mr. Strait said all the children who visited the beach for the towns Summer Recreation Program were accounted for. State police said no parents or guardians at the scene reported a child missing.
The search was called off shortly after 3 p.m.
