CANTON Electrical power was restored by about 10:20 a.m. Thursday to most National Grid customers affected by an outage of more than an hour that was caused by an animal, most likely a squirrel, that short-circuited a transformer on Miner Street.
More than 2,000 people in the town and village of Canton were without power. In the village, more than 70 percent of customers were affected.
The outage also affected the neighboring town of Pierrepont, where a smaller percentage of customers, 312 out of 1,255, was reported without power.
A handful of customers remained without power Thursday afternoon.
