Woman accused of having four different drugs

HARRISBURG — Lewis County sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of an erratic driver July 4 on Route 12 in the town of Harrisburg, resulting in the arrest of a woman on four counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance in non-original container.

Michelle L. Smith, 31, Lowville, also was charged with crossing hazard markings. Deputies said they witnessed her vehicle drive off the road onto the shoulder and back again.

Deputies said that her speech was slurred and coordination impaired, and that she had in her possession an unmarked prescription bottle containing four different controlled substances.

She was arraigned in Harrisburg Town Court and sent to Lewis County jail, Lowville, on $500 bail or $1,000 bond.

Subsequent investigation found that one of the medications in her possession was not prescribed to her and had been reported stolen by the legal prescription holder June 30, deputies said.
