Francis J. Ryan


LAFARGEVILLE - Francis J. Ryan, 87, formerly of Adams Center, died early Saturday morning at Samaritan Medical Center, where he had been a patient since July 6, 2013. Funeral service will be at 2;00 pm Wednesday, July 17, at the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams, with Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the Watertown Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the Union Cemetery, Adams Center. Calling hours will be from 1:00 - 2:00 pm preceding the funeral.

Born March 29, 1926 in Norfolk, NY, son of Patrick J. and Olive Campbell Ryan, he attended school in Norfolk. He worked on several farms in the Rochester area before entering the United States Army in 1944, where he served in Germany and the Battle of the Bulge. Following his honorable discharge in 1947, he worked for various construction companies in the Watertown area. He retired in 1978 due to disability.

He married Betty Rogers July 10,1948. The couple lived in Watertown and Sackets Harbor before moving to Adams Center. Mrs. Ryan died September 22, 1982.

He later married Mabel Spearance on July 9, 1992. The couple have lived most of their married life in LaFargeville.

Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife, Mabel, LaFargeville; five sons, James (Joan) Ryan, Adams Center, Larry Ryan, Syracuse, Francis Ryan, Jr. (and companion Patty Gebo), Watertown, Neil Ryan, Watertown, Toby (Cheryl) Ryan, Adams; two daughters, Rena Gebo and (companion Kelly Earl), Watertown, Nancy Stuckey, Great Bend; one step son, Steven (Susan) Yerdon, Denver, CO, two step daughters, Terry (John) Crump, Brownville, Brenda (Michael) Ramus, Watertown; thirty five grandchildren, sixty seven great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Michael Ryan, and one sister, Jean Sharp.

He is a member of the Laborer’s Union, Watertown.

Mr. Ryan enjoyed playing cards, buying antiques, fishing and buying scratch off tickets.
