HAMMOND - A long-standing tradition returns to Hammond this weekend.
The Hammond Fire and Rescue Department will be sponsoring Field Day on Saturday.
The event is a hometown favorite for the community with just over 1,000 people.
Weve been doing this for over 70 years, Fire Chief Jon B. Bass said.
A parade featuring local marching bands will begin the day at Hammond Central School at 7 p.m.
The parade will make its way through town, down Main Street, and end at the Hammond Fire Hall, 300 Lake St.
The parade grows every year, Mr. Bass said. We dont always know what were going to get.
At the parades finish, games and food will be available throughout the day. At 2 p.m., the Fire Hall will host its annual chicken barbecue.
The event is free to the public, but donations are always welcome, Mr. Bass said.
It goes until whenever, Mr. Bass said. We just want families to come out and have a good time.
Hammond Fire and Rescue will be holding an auction in conjunction with field day.
All of the funds raised from this auction will be used to support Hammond Fire and Rescue. By donating an item, youll be making a tax deductible contribution that will help Hammond Fire and Rescue continue to help make life better for individuals in need, right here in our community.
