Lisbon Beach swim lessons becoming popular

Bucky Kinch (green shirt) of Seaway Valley Jumpers supervised children at the Lisbon Beach using a water slide to escape the heat on Tuesday afternoon. The Seaway Valley Jumpers have been coming to the beach since last summer to entertain kids at the beach. Campground Director Michael J. O’Neil said this summer has been their best yet for swimming lessons. More than 150 kids from Lisbon, Heuvelton, Morristown and Ogdensburg are taking swimming lessons at the beach this summer, Mr. O’Neil said. The beach has never had more than 100 kids taking lessons, he said. Mr. O’Neil said Colleen Hammond, the beach’s waterfront coordinator, has been doing an “excellent job” with the classes and said she is responsible for much of the growth. (Ewart photo)
