James Armstrong seeks a third term as Lisbon Town Supervisor

LISBON – James W. Armstrong is running for a third term as town supervisor, saying he wants to continue keeping the town in good working order.

“The people before me left [the town] in good shape, and I want to continue that,” he said.

A lifelong town resident and farmer, Mr. Armstrong said there are lots of ongoing projects he wants to continue moving forward.

“There’s road repair, recreation, projects at the beach,” he said. “There will always be unfinished business.”

Mr. Armstrong said the town is facing a economically tough road ahead.

“It looks like a lot of our state and federal money will continue to dry up,” Mr. Armstrong said. “We just don’t have a lot of outside money.”

And Mr. Armstrong said he is “not in favor of raising taxes. You have to cut services and be more conservative in your approach to what you do. You can’t spend more than what you take in.”

To guide the town in the right direction, Mr. Armstrong said, he values hearing from the public.

“I encourage people to vote and come to town board meetings,” he said. “There’s nothing better than seeing people come to town board meetings. That’s what it’s all about.”

At the meetings, Mr. Armstrong said, people are free to voice their opinion. Even if they don’t have anything to say, he said, he would still like to see more people showing up just to get a feel for what their government is doing.

“It’s unfortunate that more people don’t come,” he said.

Mr. Armstrong, a Republican, said he considers himself “a conservative and I will be till I die.”

In order to get out the vote Mr. Armstrong said he is talking with people in the town and standing by his record.

“I have the time [to serve as town supervisor]. There are good people to work with, and things are going pretty well,” Mr. Armstrong said.
