FC Freeze U18 Boys surge to win over Upstate United


CANTON - The FC Freeze U18 Boys team sewed up its fourth straight Northern New York Youth Soccer League title Thursday night with a 9-1 rout of Upstate United at Indian River High School in Philadelphia.

The Freeze scored five goals in the first 20 minutes of the game before pulling the ball back and working on controlling play for the latter part of the first half. The Freeze added four second-half goals to ice the victory. Aaron Sharlow (Malone) netted three goals and Mitch Beattie (Ontario) had two goals and an assist to pace the potent Freeze attack. Matt Mende (Canton), Nate Peo (Ogdensburg), Jacob Oatman (Canton) and Pat Normandin (Potsdam) each added a goal and an assist. Scott Wight (Canton) played well in net.

Last week the Freeze, playing shorthanded, sustainedthe first blemish on its record imposed by Thousand Islands, as the teams played to a 3-3 draw at LaFargeville. Beattie scored all three Freeze goals, including the tying goal with two minutes to play. David Caamano (Potsdam) subbed in net and played well.

The Freeze stand at 5-0-1 with two games to play, including a makeup with Thousand Islands and the season finale next Thursday at Indian River against General Brown.
