Names, more information released about Friday’s crash into Black River

Watertown police late Friday confirmed more information about the vehicle that crashed into the Black River about 5 p.m. that day.

According to the crash report, Christan A. Cooper, 31, told police she “dozed off” while driving her 2004 Mercury sport utility vehicle, which hit a curb on the 700 block of Water Street. She then hit the accelerator instead of the brake and lost control of the SUV, which left the road and entered the river.

Ms. Cooper and her three passengers, son Zachary T.S. Cooper, 2, and Lacie A.L. Thomas, 13, and Anthony D. Jackson, 15, all suffered cuts and bruises but were able to escape from the vehicle. All four were taken to Samaritan Medical Center for evaluation, but were later released.

The vehicle was removed from the river by a local towing company.

No tickets were listed.
