FREDRICKSBURG, VA / WATERTOWN, NY ~ Ralph Herman Carrier, 80, of Fredricksburg, Virginia, formerly of Watertown, NY, died on Monday, July 22, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredricksburg.
Born on May 15, 1933, in Utica, NY, a son of Raymond C. and Anna Mary Schlager Carrier, he was educated in Whitesboro, NY, and later moved to the Watertown area.
A Korean Conflict era veteran, he joined the US Navy in 1951, at the age of 17, and served until being discharged in 1954.
On August 15, 1954, he married Shirley Jean Frederick in Watertown, NY. Mrs. Carrier died in 2010.
Throughout his early life, he worked at various jobs until 1966, when he went to work as a salesman for Quick Motors in Watertown. In 1978, he moved to St. Petersburg, FL where he continued to work as a salesman for Adcock Buick in St. Petersburg. He retired in 1988 and moved to Brantingham, NY, until 1999 when he and his wife moved back to Palm Coast, Florida. In 2011, after the death of his wife, he moved to Fredricksburg, VA where he has since resided.
His favorite pastimes were golfing and bowling.
Surviving are two daughters, Joanne C. LaParr and her partner, Tim Scanlon, of Harrisville, and Diane L. and (husband) Thomas Altmire, of Watertown; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Carrier and William Carrier, both of Canton, NY; a sister, Barbara Ramie, of Syracuse, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion, Judy Chandler, of Fredricksburg, VA.
He was predeceased by his son James Edward Carrier, and two brothers, Robert and Donald Carrier.
