Do you have a place youd like to stock with fish?
The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District is now taking orders for its annual fish program. Available are Largemouth Bass, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Catfish. These fish average about 5 inches long and the prices are about $210.00 per hundred depending on the species. Minimum order is 25 fish.
Fathead Minnows are also available as feed at a lower cost. Note: Minnows also eat mosquitoes.
Trout will do best in cold ponds. Rainbow may grow to 20-24 inches and can weigh 2 – 3 pounds. Rainbows are larger, but Brooks are more aggressive. The Largemouth Bass do well in warmer ponds. They may grow to 18-19 and can weigh 4-5 pounds.
A bass requires 8 pounds of food to gain 1 pound of body weight. Catfish, which are a better fish than the common bullhead, can get up to 5-10 pounds and will tolerate a wide range of water temperature.
All make for some great fishing and eating!
Orders are being taken until September 27, 2013, with pick-up on October 11th. Proceeds of these sales benefit conservation projects in the county. The Soil and Water Conservation District has been serving county residents since 1957.
