LOWVILLE Lewis County legislators are likely to reappoint their commissioner of social services at their next meeting.
The legislative Social Services Committee is recommending that Commissioner Stacy L. Alvord, whose initial five-year term expires in the fall, be reappointed for a second term, according to Legislature Chairman Michael A. Tabolt, R-Croghan.
However, the full Legislature still will need to approve the matter at its Aug. 6 meeting.
The committee chose to advertise for the position, as it did five years ago, to determine outside interest in the position. The county then re-advertised after Mrs. Alvord was the only one of four initial applicants to meet the Civil Service requirement, and a few other qualified candidates came forward.
Committee members, along with several other lawmakers, on July 19 interviewed Mrs. Alvord and two other candidates, then came up with the recommendation for the full board.
