Bicyclist hit by vehicle, injured at Watertown intersection

A bicyclist was injured Friday evening when he was struck by a vehicle at Coffeen and North Massey streets.

City police said Michael D. Mazur, 63, of 7290 Brantingham Road, Greig, had stopped at a red light on Coffeen Street about 8:15 p.m. and had proceeded to turn right onto North Massey Street without seeing Mario F. Gagliasso, 47, of 120 Keyes Ave., who was crossing the intersection on North Massey Street on a bike. The Mazur vehicle struck Mr. Gagliasso, causing him to flip over the bike’s handlebars.

Mr. Gagliasso was taken to Samaritan Medical Center complaining of pain to his upper arm and shoulder. Neither Mr. Mazur nor a 60-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was injured.

Police determined that Mr. Gagliasso was traveling against the flow of traffic and on a sidewalk and no tickets were issued.
