Hagan races to victory at Can-Am

LAFARGEVILLE — Brandon Hagan grabbed the lead on a restart on lap 18 during the 25-lap sportsman modified race and won the checkered flag for the headline event Friday night at Can-Am Motorsports Park.

Hagan led a top-five finish that included, respectively, Nick Webb, Justin Thompson, Taylor Caprara and Chris Thurston.

In the late models, Greg Belyea led halfway and held on to finish first. Kenny Hamm won the pro street division. Phil Desormeau the thunder stocks division, and Ray Bechler the thunder car division.

DUNN HANGS ON FOR WIN

Defending track champion Billy Dunn extended his win streak to three straight by outracing Chris Raabe in the 358 modifieds race at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne.

Dunn won for the fifth time at the track. Raabe settled for second. Carey Terrance finished third.

In the Empire Super Sprints, Steve Poirier won his fourth race of the year to move into second place all-time on the tour with his 39th career win.

In the sportsman, Darryl Nutting claimed his first Mohawk feature victory. Joel Hargrave edged Mathieu Robinson for the win in the mod lites.
