CANTON - NYS DMV has experienced an outage with their main computer system that has affected DMV transaction processing across the state. County Clerks have been notified that the problem appears to be a complication resulting from a mainframe upgrade performed by the Office of Information Technology Services yesterday (Sunday). The system was fully tested after the upgrade was completed; however there appears to be an issue that presented itself under the normal (high) transaction volumes that was not detected during testing. ITS is currently working to identify and resolve the problem according to Assistant Commissioner DMV/County Clerk Liaison Omarr Evans.

DMV computers have been down since opening this morning and offices have not been given an estimated time for when the problem will be resolved. Although transactions cannot be processed, the staff at the St. Lawrence County DMV offices is accepting renewals and plate surrenders that can be dropped off and mailed back to the customer.
