DEFERIET A house at 21 Wilna Ave. that was destroyed by fire in June will be demolished once an asbestos evaluation is completed, Mayor Janet M. Zando told the village Board of Trustees early this month.
A June 18 blaze severely damaged the two-story house owned by Shawn W. Rummel, who is deployed to Korea and had a tenant living in the house.
Also during the July 1 meeting, the mayor updated the board on the joint water project in the works with the village of Herrings. She said an application had to be filed with the Federal Aviation Administration concerning the siting of the water tower because of its proximity to Fort Drum. She said lights on the tower may be required.
The village board decided to postpone changing the recycling schedule until September. At that time there will be pickup for recyclable items twice a month, with paper, magazines, cardboard and newspapers collected on the first Thursday and tin, glass and plastic on the third Thursday.
At residents request, the board will ask National Grid about installing a streetlight at the end of Wilna Avenue.
It was announced a rabies clinic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at the municipal building, 68 Riverside Drive. The cost is $10, and animals must be contained or leashed.
