A heavy rain spoiled the Ogdensburg Maples plans to host their first invitational at Father Martin Field on Sunday.
But the local 19U baseball team did pick up an opening round victory, beating Gouverneur 12-2, before the heavy rain set in.
Geoff Baldwin, Alex Hayes, Kinnon LaRose and Breton LaRose combined to strike out 11 in a four-hitter and Lefty Arsenault led the offense with a single and a triple. Baldwin doubled and singled, Bryant Wentworth and Jon Tayler stroked two singles and Jordan Miller doubled.
Contributing singles were: Seth Pinkerton, Kinnon LaRose, Andrew Cole and DaKota Brady.
