Peter W. Hayes, 59, of Riverwood Acres, Ogdensburg, and a Watertown native, passed away Sunday, July 28, at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg following a courageous 12 year battle with cancer.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Thursday, August 1st at 2:00 with a reception to follow. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.

Peter was born on January 3, 1954 in Watertown to the late Mary L. (Strauss) Hayes and Lewis R. Hayes. He graduated from Immaculate Heart Central in 1972 and from the Rochester Business Institute in 1973.

After a whirlwind romance, he married Nora C. Little on June 9th, 1978 at First Presbyterian Church in Watertown.

Peter enjoyed collecting beer cans, reading, camping, golfing, cheering on the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, baking and delivering delicious cookies to his many friends and most of all, spending time with his family.

Before his retirement in 2012, he worked side by side with his wife, Nora to establish Hayes Appliance Center in Ogdensburg. Previously he was the Vice President of Halley Electric in Watertown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Nora C. Hayes as well as 2 children, Lindsey G. Hayes, Ogdensburg and Lauren E. & Scott Guisinger, Marcy, NY. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Thomas & Jude Hayes, Locust, NC, and Pat & Diane Hayes, Clayton, NY and also 1 sister, Sally & Fred Siembab of Tamarac, FL. He is also survived by Nora’s parents, Harold & Donna Little, Watertown as well as two aunts, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, MaryLou and Lew.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center, 5 Lyon Place, Ogdensburg, N.Y. 13669.
