Town and Tavern Modified Softball playoff tournament this weekend in Parishville

PARISHVILLE - The Town and Tavern Modified Softball League playoff tournament will be more of a post-season celebration this weekend at the Firemen’s Field.

With the regular season race coming down to the wire, this year’s playoff championship is shaping up to be just as hotly contested. Pit Stop of Winthrop and Riverview of Brasher Falls entered the final week tied atop the standings but both squads were slated to close out against last year’s playoff champion, the Gandy of Norwood.

Along with the coveted playoff champion being crowned on Sunday, a wealth of post-season awards will also be handed out by the end of the tournament.

Highlighting the awards presentations will be the induction of four league stalwarts into the Hall of Fame - Bob ‘Bear’ Doran, Scott Gavin, Jim Latulipe and Pete Timmons.

For the first time, the league will be selecting a Player of the Year this summer and before the start of the championship game on Sunday, a total of 32 players and coaches will be awarded trophies in recognition of being named league All-Stars. Following the title game, MVP awards will be presented to the top infielder, outfielder, pitcher and batter.

League President Terry Paige predicts an exciting weekend of quality softball action and would like to invite anyone interested in fielding a team for the 2014 season to come out and get a firsthand look at the competition.

“Our style of softball is exciting,” Paige noted. There’s bunting, stealing, and we’ve got pitchers who are very challenging for batters. That’s what makes this a fun sport to play as well as watch.”

For more information about fielding a team for next summer, contest Paige at (315) 842-0602 or Bob Doran at (315) 384-4350.
