WADDINGTON - The community is getting set for three full days of races, picnics, and fireworks as part of its 38th Annual Homecoming.

The three-day event begins Friday with sand castles, ice cream, and a diaper derby.

Shelly L. Shirley, event coordinator, said new events have been added to this year’s schedule.

“From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, we’ll have karaoke with Rick Snyder, which is something we’ve never done before,” Ms. Shirley said. “I had a couple of people approach me last year that said they would like to see a change up in events, so we tried to do that this year.”

Also new this year is a father-son juggling act called “Gravitational Bull,” which will be held at the library from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Last year was a very hot year, so we wanted to keep things moving with one event after another,” Ms. Shirley said. “It was hard for people to sit in one spot when the temperatures get up there.”

Returning this year is the cupcake war. Ms. Shirley said the judging contest brings out all kinds of cupcakes from red velvet to bacon and maple.

The theme of this year’s homecoming is “Where the World Comes to Fish,” in honor of the Bassmaster Elite Tournament which will take place the week after Homecoming.

“We’re hearing mixed reports about how many spectators and anglers will be in town for homecoming, so it’s difficult to say whether we can expect more people than in years past,” Ms. Shirley said. “But we’re prepared for anybody. The more the merrier.”

There is still time to set up a booth for the craft show. The last day for vendors to register is Thursday.

“We’re expecting a very good turnout for the craft show,” Ms. Shirley said. “We have over 124 vendors signed up. We have room for about six more.”

For more information, contact Ms. Shirley at 276-6327 or Nancy Putney at 388-5576.
