After sitting dry for several years, Bumpers, Americas Car Wash, the vacant automated car wash that sits in front of Salmon Run Mall, is generating some interest.
The town of Watertown received a call on Monday from someone who is interested in reopening the car wash. The man identified himself as David Clements, but town Planning Board officials had no other information about him or his plans.
He is scheduled to appear at Monday nights Planning Board meeting to talk about his plans. The meeting will be held at 7 in the Town Hall, county Route 67.
In January 2006, the automated car wash opened, billed as the first of a franchise and a guinea pig for possible others in the north country. The owners, brothers who grew up in the Utica-Rome area, thought busy Arsenal Street would be an ideal location for a car wash. It closed within a year.
