Two Watertown men charged with possessing sawed-off shotgun in vehicle

Watertown City police charged two men after they were found possessing a sawed-off shotgun in a vehicle they were traveling in Monday evening.

Police said the altered 12-gauge shotgun, which was loaded with five shells, was in reach of Robert A. Williams, 21, of 134 Central St., and Robert O. Mono Sr., 27, of 755 State St., Apt. C. Both were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Mr. Williams also received a charge of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, while Mr. Mono was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation after intially giving police a false name and date of birth to avoid active warrants in Lewis County.

Charged at 6:18 p.m. Monday at the 500 block of Eastern Boulevard, the two were held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in City Court.
