TOWN OF RUSSIA – Richard C. Powers, 82, of Russia Road, Poland, died on August 5, 2013 at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford.
He was born on August 21, 1930 in Utica, a son of the late Clyde and Anastacia (Jessen) Powers. Richard attended Utica schools and was united in marriage to the former Nancy Anne Bartlett on November 3, 1951. He entered the U. S. Navy in 1952 where he served during the Korean War. Richard was honorably discharged in 1953 at the rank of ADE3. He was a sales representative with Horrocks-Ibbotson, formerly of Utica and later co-owned and operated Clayton Marina in Clayton. Richard was the Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Russia from 1980 to 1990.
Richard and Nancy spent 50 years of summers on the St. Lawrence River where he enjoyed fishing and boating with friends.
Survivors besides his wife of 61 years, Nancy, include two daughters, Sharon (William) Alberta of Ithaca, Judith (Andrew) Taylor of Barneveld; one son, John (Christine) Powers of Clayton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Robert; and his grandson, Ian Alberta.
Memorial calling hours will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport on Thursday, August 8th, from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be no formal funeral service.
