CLAYTON — U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand announced Friday that the Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service will be awarded $118,000 in federal loans and grant funding to purchase a new ambulance.

“This loan and grant will preserve quality of life for Thousand Islands area residents and businesses, improve safety and encourage further investment in the region,” Mr. Schumer said in a joint news release.

TIERS will get a $41,300 grant and $76,700 loan through U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Office’s Community Facility Loan and Grant program.

“This is an important investment for Thousand Islands first responders,” Sen. Gillibrand said.
