CHAUMONT — A Cape Vincent man was charged Monday night with fleeing a police officer with his 3-year-old son in the vehicle after he allegedly was observed driving at 116 mph on Route 12E in the town of Lyme.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said Corey A. White, 23, of 28451 County Route 6, was speeding about 6:45 p.m. Monday when a deputy tried to pull him over. Police said Mr. White tried to flee the deputy by passing two vehicles and turning onto an unidentified road.

Mr. White also was cited with reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was summoned to appear in Lyme Town Court.
