The Beach Boys spend Monday at Clarkson Inn in Potsdam, give hotel perfect review

POTSDAM — The Beach Boys gave the Clarkson Inn good reviews after a stop here between shows in Quebec and Pennsylvania this week.

“They arrived on Monday morning at around 7 a.m. and left early this morning at 1 a.m.,” Clarkson Inn manager George LaVigne said Tuesday. “The whole crew was there. There were about 12 people here. We dealt with their manager for checking in and booking rooms but the band members and crew were the ones who came and stayed.”

They seemed to enjoy their visit, starting with a breakfast prepared by the inn staff that band member Bruce Johnston described as “subtly elegant” and “very reasonably priced” and rated an “eleven out of a possible ten” in a review of the hotel on

From there the men spent their day playing volleyball in Ives Park, doing their laundry and dining at Italian restaurant Sergi’s on Market Street. Some also went to the movies at the nearby Roxy Theater.

The band made their stop in the north country on their way to Kennett Square, Pa., for a Tuesday night concert. They had performed on Sunday night in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.

“When somebody very important is coming, we don’t talk about it too much,” Mr. LaVigne said. “When they leave, I usually ask them if it is OK to talk with the press and the community about their stay. Some say no, but they were fine with it.”

According to Mr. LaVigne and Mr. Johnston’s online review, the group will be coming back next summer.

“There are plenty of good vibrations here in the Clarkson Inn,” Mr. Johnston wrote in his review. “All of us in the band are thrilled to be guests of the Clarkson Inn and we all will be back here next summer!”
