SMC to offer tobacco cessation classes

Samaritan Medical Center has partnered with the Tobacco Cessation Center of Northern New York to offer free smoking cessation classes.

Monthly classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Aug. 28, in conference room 4 at the hospital, 830 Washington St. Other classes are scheduled Sept. 25, Oct. 30, Nov. 13 and Dec. 19. Preregistration is not required.

Classes will be led by Beth Gero, tobacco treatment specialist with the cessation center. The need for this education was identified through Samaritan’s Early Lung Cancer Screening Program, according to a hospital news release. Through the program, many participants indicated they would like to quit smoking.

The hospital is offering the smoking cessation classes free of charge through a state grant. For more information, visit
