Jefferson Community College has appointed Alicia M. Dewey as Jefferson Community College Foundation executive director, effective Sept. 3.
Ms. Dewey, a graduate of JCC with associate degrees in business administration and paralegal studies, will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic advancement objectives for the college related to annual, major gifts, capital and planned giving programs; grant coordination and alumni programming, according to a recent news release.
I have a very personal connection to the college. It was a stepping stone to where I am now, Ms. Dewey said.
For the past six years, she has been both the grant administrator and executive assistant to the Clayton town supervisor. Since January 2012, she has been the town of Claytons director of finance and human resources, where she has managed day-to-day operations, overseen personnel and accounting functions, assisted with town budget development, developed grant proposals and created community newsletters.
Included in her lengthy resume, in 2008 she co-founded the Thousand Islands Young Leaders Organization, a nonprofit group of volunteers. She also owns her own consulting business, which provides grant application services and assistance with business and marketing plans for small businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Ms. Dewey replaces Christine M. Rizzo, who resigned May 31. JCC President Carole A. McCoy said earlier this summer that she had hoped the position would be filled by mid-July, but the college decided to extend the advertising period to draw in a larger pool of candidates.
Mrs. McCoy was unavailable for comment Thursday.
Meanwhile, Ms. Dewey said she looks forward to her role of leading the foundation and helping raise funds to support the college and its students. As a JCC student, she said, she benefited from some scholarships that were financially supported by the foundation.
Im very excited, she said. Im looking forward to being a part of the foundation and JCC as a whole.
She received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of education degree from St. Lawrence University, Canton.
With her appointment, Ms. Dewey will scale back her responsibilities with TIYLO but will continue to serve as a trustee of River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, and in other volunteer positions throughout the north country.
