GREAT BEND Local contractor Bette & Cring Construction Group was awarded a contract for Carthage Central School Districts emergency theater project at a special Board of Education meeting Wednesday.
The board in mid-April approved the $422,400 emergency capital project to upgrade the high school stages rigging equipment to a motorized system. The rigging last was replaced in 1965.
The project includes reinforcing the steel structure and replacing the rigging and stage floor. It will be funded with state aid, Superintendent Peter J. Turner said. Declaring it an emergency project means the district can start the project sooner and be reimbursed the following year rather than gradually over time.
Mr. Turner did not have an exact start date for the project but said it probably will begin in November and be completed in December.
