WADDINGTON The Waddington Campground Committee will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss its preliminary drawings for a proposed campground at Leishman Point to gauge residents thoughts on the plans.
James Thew, of Thew Associates, Canton, is volunteering his services to draw up the plans for the project. Mr. Thew is a committee member.
We have a preliminary layout plan to put together, and were seeking ideas from residents whether they are interested in strictly RV, tent or cabin sites, Mr. Thew said. Also, we want to know what other services residents would be interested in, such as a walking trail around the perimeter.
The Campground Committee already has completed a layout for 18 sites.
Eighteen sites works well and keeps our septic systems to a certain size and allows us to phase the project into multiple phases for each group of sites, Mr. Thew said.
The biggest challenge will be funding sewer and electrical systems on the point. Mr. Thew said the committee plans to apply for grants to fund the work.
From a sanitary standpoint, nothing has been cast in stone, Mr. Thew said. At some point there will be provisions made for a bathhouse.
The committee said it would like to have four initial sites constructed by next spring.
But that all depends on our funding sources and how the town board wants to move forward with it, Mr. Thew said.
The meeting will be held at the Municipal Building, 48 Maple St.
