Lawrence J. Raville


Lawrence J. Raville, Sr, 89, of East Berlin, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his home in the arms of Barbara, his beloved wife of more than 60 years, and their children.

Larry was born January 31, 1924 in Malone, NY, the son of the late Joseph L. and Dora (Trucheon) Raville.

Larry was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbottstown, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a 1943 graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone, NY, a 1948 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and earned his Master’s degree at SUNY in Cortland, NY. He served in several school districts in Northern and Central NY, the NY Department of Mental Hygiene, the Veteran’s Administration, the U.S. Air Force “Strategic Command”, and as the Dean of Students at Matre Dei College in Ogdensburg, NY. After retiring from the field of education, he joined the National Federation of Independent Businesses and retired in 1991 after 20 years as a district manager. He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus Council #2551 in McSherrystown, the AMVETS, the American Legion, the NY Sate Teachers’ Association, the NY State Physical Education and Athletics Directors’ Association, and the National Recreation Association. Larry enjoyed an occasional round of golf, was a NASCAR fan, but mainly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their activities growing up.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Larry is survived by 3 daughters; Barbara M. Rash and her husband Charlie of Leesburg, VA, Victoria R. Lynch and her husband Michael of Sam Francisco, CA, and Adrienne A. Raville of Mahopac, NY, 2 sons; Lawrence J. Raville, II and his wife Belinda of Hanover, and Blaise T. Raville of Hanover, 6 grandchildren; Meagan Raville, Madelyn Raville, Jake Raville, Molly Raville, Emma Raville and Joseph Raville, a brother, Wilbur Raville of Earlville, NY and a sister, Burnetta Ford of Delancy, NY. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Raville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6084 W. Canal Rd, Abbottstown, with Rev. Kenneth G. Smith as Celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no viewing. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford, is in charge of arrangements.
