BLACK RIVER- Rita May Walton, 91, of 142 West Remington Street, Black River, died at 10:05 p.m. on Sunday evening at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after being admitted on August 10, 2013.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River. Contributions may be made to the Black River Ambulance Squad, P.O. Box 314, Black River, NY 13612.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Walton of Black River, and Mrs. Glenn (Sharon) Fralick of Adams Center; a granddaughter, Jodi Delles of Watertown. She is predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Joseph McDermott; a sister, Marion Williams; a granddaughter, Nikki Fralick.

She was born in Watertown, NY, on October 6, 1921, a daughter of the late John and Lulu LaVere McDermott. She graduated from Black River High School and married Leslie Walton of Black River on September 15, 1943 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Rectory, with Rev. James Fix, officiating. She was employed by Fort Drum as a secretary, and later as a sales clerk for Red & White Grocery Store, and also for the Quick Stop, Black River. Her husband died on December 13, 1988.

Mrs. Walton was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Precious Blood, and the Rural Carrier’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and knitting.
