Potsdam Fire, police on scene of ammonia leak at Maxcy Hall

POTSDAM - The Potsdam Fire Department and police agencies are on the scene of an ammonia leak at Maxcy Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus. Two Hazardous Material teams from Jefferson County are responding to the scene at the 8 a.m. hour.

College spokeswoman Alexandra M. Jacobs said in an email that Maxcy Hall is closed until further notice today because of an ammonia leak in the mechanical room. All classes and activities held in Maxcy Hall will be cancelled until further notice, she said.

“The college is working closely with responding agencies to address this situation as quickly as possible, to ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors. In the interest of safety, all are encouraged to stay away from Maxcy Hall at this time. A follow-up message will be sent to campus when it is safe to re-enter the building,” Ms. Jacobs wrote in her email, noting further information would be released as it becomes available.
