HAMILTON - After earning a starting job at defensive end last season, Massenas Antranig Anto Almasian will be making his first start at nose guard for the Patriot League Champion Colgate University football team on Saturday against Air Force Academy.
Almasian, 6-3, 261-pounds, played in all 12 games with 11 starts at defensive end as a sophomore. He notched 15 tackles on the season, including four solo stops. Almasian had a career high three tackles against both Bucknell and Wagner last year and contributed solo tackle for loss in 57-36 win over Georgetown and added shared sack in 47-33 victory at Bucknell. His freshman season in 2011, he played in five games against Albany, Dartmouth, Monmouth,
Cornell and Bucknell and finished the season with two tackles, including one for a loss.
Almasian lettered four years in football at Massena Central and was ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 193 overall as outside linebacker by ESPN. He played defensive end and tight end his junior and senior seasons and also served as team captain both seasons. At Massena, he finished his career with 115 tackles and also caught 27 passes for 350 yards and four scores. He earned a First Team All-State Defense selection by ESPN . He was an All-NAC selection and Watertown Daily Times All-North selection. He was selected to play in a North vs. South All Star game and also lettered in lacrosse, wrestling and track and field.
Colgate is ranked 23rd in the nation FCS D1AA and Saturdays game against Air Force game is sold out 46,692 and will be televised on the West Coast.
He is the son of Jeffrey and Rosanne Almasian of Massena.
