Douglas W. Wood


Douglas W. Wood, 57, Green St., Watertown, passed away at his home on Friday morning, August 30, 2013.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Tuesday, September 3, from 4 - 7PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church on Wednesday, September 4, at 11AM with Rev. Donald Robinson officiating and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Doug was born in Camden on February 6, 1956, son of the late Rev. Allison C. and Kathleen M. Nichols Wood. He was educated in Massena schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1974. He had attended Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

On May 11, 1985 he married Mary Jo Coniglio at St. Anthony’s Church with Revs. Michael Gaffney and Allison C. Wood coofficiating.

For 37 years, Doug gave music lessons. He opened Black River Music and taught music in the parochial schools in Watertown. He was the owner and operator of Allwood Audio Productions.

For over 20 years he was the organist for St. Anthony’s Church, where he was a member. He did sound production for the Jefferson County Fair, the Bravo Italiano Festival, the North Country Goes Green Irish Festival, several blue grass festivals, and the Miss NYS Pageant. Doug played in some local bands and also provided sound production for them and numerous other local functions. He was a devoted friend and family man, especially to his sons, and they enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, golf, and basketball together.

Besides his wife, Mary Jo, he is survived by his two sons, Sterling E., a student at Morrisville State College, and Storm D., at home; brother, David E. Wood and spouse, Anne Marchetta, MA; two sisters, Sharon A. Wood and spouse, Loretta A. Wrobel, CT and Dawn W. Powers and spouse, Patrick, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donations in his name may be made to either St. Anthony’s Church, 850 Arsenal St. or Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., both in Watertown, NY 13601. Online condolences to the family may be made at
