College basketball: Roberson cleared to play for Orange

SYRACUSE — Tyler Roberson, a highly touted freshman forward, has been cleared by the NCAA and is eligible to participate as a full qualifier in intercollegiate athletics at Syracuse University.

Roberson, a 6-foot-9 rookie from Roselle, N.J., has enrolled at SU and is attending classes.

“I want to thank the NCAA staff for its help and work on reviewing and processing Tyler’s eligibility,” SU head coach Jim Boeheim said in a statement.

Roberson’s high school transcript had been held up for more than two weeks. Because of that, he was not allowed to participate in the Orange’s four-game Canadian trip and was unable to enroll for classes.

Roberson averaged 17.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in leading Roselle Catholic to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title this past season.
