Former treasurer charged with stealing more than $13,000 from her sorority

POTSDAM - Village police have charged the former secretary of a Potsdam sorority with stealing more than $13,000 from the organization’s coffers during a two-year period.

Potsdam Village Police charged Clarissa K. Evenden, 22, of Ithaca with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny Friday morning following a lengthy investigation. She was arraigned by Potsdam Village Justice Nicholas Pignone and released on her own recognizance.

The Potsdam Police Department said they received assistance from the Ithaca Police Department in the investigation of the reported theft of over $13,000 from Alpha Delta Kappa by its former treasurer.

Police said Evenden cashed numerous checks made out to her using the sorority bank account and also made several online transactions. The transactions occurred between late 2011 and early 2013.

Her Facebook page lists her as a former Clarkson University student and says she started work in August at a financial nvestment firm in Ithaca.
