A two-car accident Friday afternoon on Route 3 at the entrance to Salmon Run Mall in the town of Watertown left five people injured, with one being flown to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said Faith G. Bettinger, 69, Adams, was making a left turn into the mall in her 2007 Toyota sedan when she crossed into the path of Dawn M. Knight, 40, Watertown, who was traveling west on Route 3 in her 2005 Mercury SUV and had the right of way.

Mrs. Bettinger was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, as were three of the four passengers in Ms. Knight’s vehicle.

Phyllis C. West, 81, who was the passenger in Mrs. Bettinger’s sedan, was flown via LifeNet helicopter to the Syracuse hospital.

Guilfoyle Ambulance, state police and Sheriff’s Department personnel responded to the scene.
