Interim public health director to be appointed

CANTON — The St. Lawrence Board of Legislators is expected to appoint an interim public health director Monday.

Lorraine Kourofsky, a former employee of Franklin County Public Health, has accepted the county’s offer to take the job at an annual salary of $84,417 until a replacement for Susan J. Hathaway, who retired, is found.

Ms. Kourofsky worked for Franklin County for 28 years as a nurse, mostly in the Prevention Division of Public Health, St. Lawrence County Administrator Karen M. St. Hilaire said.

She also served as interim director of the Franklin County Public Health agency when it was looking for a director, Ms. St. Hilaire said.

St. Lawrence County Legislators wanted to name an interim director before beginning the search for a permanent replacement because of the length of time it may take, Ms. St. Hilaire said.
