Champion - Robert W. Bach, 88, of 19212 Bach Road, died Friday, September 6, 2013, in the Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown.

Bob was born in Carthage on January 18, 1925, the son of the late Wesley and Florence Johnson Bach. He lived in Oswego for several years before his family moved to Jarrett, Virginia where he completed his education. He returned to N.Y. and worked for Pickert Bros. Dairy in Champion. Bob married the former Mary E. Stoddard on October 28, 1943 in the Methodist Parsonage in Dexter.

He started his farming career in 1944 and operated the farm on the Bach Road until his son John W. took over in 1980. Although never truly retiring, he continued being active his entire life. The couple moved to Patricia Drive, Watertown in 1980 and Bob could be seen walking in Thompson Park or exercising at Gold’s Gym on many occasions. They returned to the farm on Bach Road in the year 2000. For 30 years, the couple wintered in Leesburg, Florida. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his numerous friends in the north country and Florida.

Bob was a member of the Champion Methodist Church, a founding member of the Champion Vol. Fire Dept., longtime member of the Champion Grange and a member of the Jefferson Co. Radio Amateur Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. of Champion, four daughters: Mary Lee Thomas of Central Square, Sharon A. (Edward) Wilkins of Otter Lake, Mabel J. (Lynn) Bretsch of Champion and Florence E. Bach of Three Mile Bay, one son: John W. (Teresa) Bach of Champion, 9 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchilden, a brother: Donald R. (Mary F.) Bach, Lowville and one nephew, Donald R. Bach of Ilion. A niece, Martha A. Bach is predeceased.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at the Champion Methodist Church with the Rev’s Linda J. Harris and Tracy Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage will be on Monday from 4-7pm.
