Potsdam Police: Woman wasn’t lost; she was high

OBSTRUCTION OF GOVERNMENTAL ADMINISTRATION - POTSDAM - A call to village police from a teenager saying she was lost in the village and needed assistance early Sunday morning led to an investigation that resulted in her arrest on a misdemeanor charge.

Village police charged Lauren R. Corey, 18, of Owego with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration at 5:06 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the incident began when Corey allegedly called 911 to reportshe did not know where she was and needed help.

After being located, Corey led police to believe there was actually a second female who had approached her somewhere on Elm Street asking for help, used her cell phone to call 911 and was still in the area in need of assistance. Police searched for the second female for a substantial amount of time before further investigation revealed the teenager wasthe original caller and had given police a fictitious story about the second female.

Police alleged Corey was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the incident.
