Salmon River apppoints Potsdam man to be next high school principal

FORT COVINGTON - The Salmon River Central School Board has appointed Michael W. Warden of Potsdam to the position of high school principal, Superintendent Jane Collins said late Monday night.

Mr. Warden has worked in schools since 1997, with “extensive experience in education since 2002 as middle/high school principal at Heuvelton Central Schools,” according to Ms. Collins.

Mr. Warden is also approved to provide necessary evaluations under the state’s Annual Professional Performance Review Plan criteria.

The Potsdam man said he has excited to begin his new duties.

“I’ve been in the north country my whole life, give or take three or four years,” Mr. Warden said. “I like the district. I like the diversity in the district, and I like the people I know in the district.”

Ms. Collins said Mr. Warden will be a principal who understands students and how to lead staff. She also mentioned that he was well respected in his previous school district.

The board is currently shooting for a Sept. 16 start date for Mr. Warden. He’ll begin his career at Salmon River as a commuter from Potsdam.
