MASSENA The Massena Town Council on Monday formally accepted a $4.3 million grant that will allow the town to improve the runways at Massena International Airport.
One runway will be repaved, and the other will be remarked.
We hope that the runway marking will be completed this construction season, said Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray, who added that the repaving will have to wait until next year. Thats a much more complex job because the runway will have to be torn up first, he said. The airport will be able to operate during the project using the alternate runway.
The $4,329,760 grant, announced last month by the U.S. Department of Transportation, stipulates that the town cover 2.5 percent of the project cost.
This was included in the 2013 budget, Mr. Gray said.
