COPENHAGEN — Two drivers were injured in a head-on collision Monday morning on Route 12 about 1 mile north of Copenhagen.

James W. Lee, 50, of East Road, Turin, was transported via LifeNet helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Todd T. Beyer, 44, Punxsutawney, Pa., was taken to the same hospital via Mercy Flight. Each was the sole occupant of his vehicle.

According to a nurse at the hospital Monday night, both men were listed in fair condition.

According to state police, Mr. Beyer’s southbound 1997 Toyota Camry crossed the center line and struck Mr. Lee’s 2005 GMC Sierra about 10:45 a.m. in the town of Denmark. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage. Mr. Lee had to be rescued with the use of extrication equipment.

In addition to state police and the helicopter ambulances, Lewis County Search and Rescue and the Copenhagen Volunteer Fire Department responded.

State police are continuing their investigation.
