MASSENA - OFA suffered had no letdown after a nine day layoff, on Monday, taking on one of its biggest Central Division Boys Soccer rivals in Massena.
In the 28th minute, Nate Peo scored his first of two goals of the game on a header off a perfectly placed cornerkick from Peyton Lalone and the Devils defended very well to win 3-0.
Getting that first goal was very big for us. We got the momentum at that point and once we scored just 32 seconds into the second half we really started to play well. I wasnt sure how we would play after the nine days off but we played very well. I saw a lot of good things today, said OFA Coach Matt Morley whose team moved to 3-0, 2-0 in NAC Central and drops Massena to 1-2, 0-1 in NAC Central.
Peo converted off a rebound just 32 seconds into the second half from Conor Hannan. A little over four minutes later, Dylan Rudy Binion tucked home a 25 yard shot to the top corner of the net to close out the scoring.
Defensively, Tristan Moore stepped in at sweeper today and did a great job working with our entire defense helping Jake Sias (seven saves) to his third shutout. And I really like the way Martin Arquitt and Jed McRoberts played off the bench at halfback and Zach Ashley played at striker. Were going to need them in the second half of the season, Morley noted. Broderick and Marsh made nine saves for Massena.
JV Booters Fall: In junior varsity action the Devils dropped a 4-0 decision to Massena where OFA Coach Jim Howard cited forward, Ben Hammond, midfielders Matt Sholette and Josiah Fifield and defender Will Kroeger leading the field efforts in support of a fine 15-save gaoltending effort by Justyn McCormick.
Malone 1, Salmon River 0: Isai Paredones scored from Alex Johnson in the 28th minute for Malone (3-1, 2-0). Austin Lamay made 11 saves for the shutout. Zach Smith stopped 12 shots for Salmon River (2-3, 0-1-1).
