HEUVELTON - It was a typical Lisbon versus Heuvelton matchup on Monday at Stephanie Putney Field as the Golden Knights fended off Heuvelton in a 2-1 decision in front of a solid crowd in NAC West Division Boys Soccer play.
I thought we did very well against a very good team in Lisbon today, said HCS coach David Steele.
Were young and inexperienced and Lisbon has some good players. Lisbon had the better of the play but we didnt quit and made them work,
One of those talented Golden Knights is Adam Kelley who scored both goals of the contest.
Kelley finished off a shot at the 18 from the right corner into the far top corner of the net in the 15th minute assisted by Jordan Carr. Kelley tucked home a shot from the right corner wing to the near side post in the 59th minute to the near side post for a 2-0 lead. Aiden Scagel broke Heuveltons scoring silence with nine minutes to play on a goal off a short pass from Joe McDonnell.
It was just another Lisbon - Heuvelton battle. Always tight and usually by one goal, said Lisbon coach Bill Reed.
Jimmy Robinson made four saves for the Golden Knights (2-0, 3-1 overall) and Zach Lashomb had 12 saves for Heuvelton (1-1).
Meanwhile in the West, Harrisville moved to 2-0 with a 1-0 shutout over Edwards-Knox and Hammond evened its mark to 1-1 with a 4-1 decision over Clifton-Fine, and
Harrisville 1, Edwards-Knox 0: Tim Fowler scored from in front of the net off a cross from Jared Dreythaler with 26 seconds remaining in the game to give the Pirates a well-earned NAC West win. It was nice goal. He (Tim Fowler) took the cross on his foot and put it in the back of the net, said Edwards-Knox coach Joe Knox. Zane Mono stopped four shots in the shutout and Kaden Dandrow handled 10 shots for E-K.
Hammond 4, Clifton-Fine 1: The Red Devils scored the last three goals of the game and received single goals from Tristan Simons, Brock Tulley, Zeck Davidson-Cunningham and exchange student Alex Fokesson who Coach Katina Dillon feels is a fine addition of the team.
Alex just completed his necessary practices and is a good player. He has nice foot skills, said Dillon. Assisting on Hammond goals were Matt Martin and Payton Frisina to back eight saves from Nick Jewett. Ryan Jones scored the lone C-F goals unassisted and Jordan Planty stopped 18 shots.
Harrisville 1, Edwards-Knox 0: Courtney LaBeau scored the only goal from Sam Reynolds with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Abby Lafaver stopped 10 shots for a shutout and Kelsey White handled nine shots for E-K.
