The Childrens Miracle Network of Northern New York at Samaritan Medical Center is expected to fill center court of Salmon Run Mall with hundreds of young children later this month when the annual CMN Baby Photo Contest is presented by Creative Imaging Fine Photography.
Sept. 20 through 22, Creative Imaging owners James H. and Kathy S. Naklick will have a mock studio set up there to take photographs of up to 300 children. Parents or guardians of children 5 and younger in the contest then will go out and raise both funds for and awareness of Childrens Miracle Network.
Its competitive, so people look for sponsorship, said Morgan OBrien Bocciolatt, CMN development manager. Its hard to say no to kids.
Prizes will be awarded to the three children who garner the most votes. The grand prize is $2,000, and first and second place awards are $1,000 and $500, respectively. Voting will take place online Oct. 9 to 18, and a display will be set up in the mall Oct. 14 to 18. Votes will be $1 each, or six for $5.
Theyll be able to go online and see if theyre in the top 10, Miss Bocciolatt said. Maybe theyre number 10 and want to be number one.
She said she hopes parents and guardians use social media to promote their childs photo, and to request votes be cast in honor of their child.
To enter a child in the contest, there will be a $15 fee, or $10 per child if more than one sibling is being entered. Only one child may be in the photograph, unless they are twins, triplets or other multiples.
A photo suitable for framing is included in the entrance fee, and other portrait packages will be available for purchase.
An awards ceremony will be held Oct. 19 in the mall. People can pick up their photographs then; winners must be present to collect a prize.
Miss Bocciolatt said there is no dress code for the event; parents and guardians may choose their childrens attire.
An imagination station with various activities will be set up for children to keep them occupied while they wait for their photographs to be taken.
As an incentive to fill up spots, and get entrants in early, goodie bags will be offered for the first 200 children. Childrens items from the events various sponsors will be given out in those bags. Sponsors include the Watertown Daily Times, WWNY-TV7 and Fox 28, Salmon Run Mall and others.
All money raised from the event will stay in the north country. For more information, visit the event website, http://wdt.me/RzZWcd.
