MASSENA: Floyd Merritt Lawrence, 87 of East Hatfield St. passed away Tuesday morning September 10, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Merritt as he was fondly known to by his family and friends was born on February 21, 1926 in Goose Neck Island, Louisville to the son of Royal and Minnie (Waldruff) Lawrence. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. Merritt was employed at Alcoa and retired as a Mechanic - Millwright in 1978. On June 28, 1963 he married Mina Lytle. Mina predeceased him on August 8, 1996. Merritt survivors include a step daughter Eleanor and husband Donald Lawrence of Waddington and a step son Vern Drew of Massena, threegrandchildren. Merritt enjoyed fishing and hunting in the North Country. Friends and family may call on Friday Sept. 13, 2013 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena. Funeral services for Merritt Lawrence will be held on Sept. 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home with Rev. David Piatt Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Waddington officiating. Interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington, NY. Those wishing to remember Merritt may do so to contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
