Paul A. McDermott


Pillar Point- The funeral service for Paul A. McDermott will be 10 am Friday, September 13th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will be for the convenience of the family in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, September 12th from 4 pm - 7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr. McDermott, 68, of Pillar Point, formerly of Watertown, passed away Monday morning at the Samaritan Medical Center where he was admitted September 4th.

He was born in Watertown January 19, 1945, a son to Robert and Virginia McDermott. He graduated from Watertown High School. Paul served with the US Coast Guard following his education. Paul started his career with the City of Watertown, February 3, 1969, retiring December 27, 2002 as Assistant Chief Operator and Laboratory Director at the Waste Water Facility.

Paul enjoyed hunting and fly fishing, spending time at his camp in Montague on the Tug Hill, canoeing and gardening.

He was married to Joyce Perkins McDermott of Watertown.

Paul is survived by his companion, Yvonne Tucker, Pillar Point; two sons and their wives, Dawson and Nicole McDermott, Whitesboro; Edward and Sue McDermott, Geneseo. A daughter and her husband, Adrian and Jake Marriott, Watertown. His grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Barrett, Adelaide and Madelyn McDermott, Lacey and Ella Marriott, Theresa, C.J., Lucas and Archie Paul McDermott. A brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sia McDermott, Henderson; A sister and brother-in-law, AlthaRae (Thomas) O’Driscoll, Worth. Many nieces and nephews.
