Potsdam boys fall to Canton

POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity boys soccer team dropped a 2-1 NAC Central Division decision to Canton Central on its home turf on Wednesday.

The visiting Bears struck first when Tanner Sanderson finished off a play set up by Ryan Caldwell 28 minutes into the game. The Sandstoners pulled even five minutes into the second half after Ebuka Ononye converted off an assist from David Caamano but the Bears countered just five minutes later when Jake Facey broke through for an unassisted goal.

Ashler Herrick made seven saves working the Potsdam crease through the first half. Jack Burns posted five stops in the second while Scott Wight turned aside 15 of the shots he faced going the distance between the pipes for Canton.

The Sandstoners (2-2-0, 1-2-0) head to Central New York this weekend for a pair of non-league games. They take on Henninger High School at the Onondaga Community College field in Syracuse on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before playing at Whitesboro High School on Saturday at 1 p.m.
